Passing of 65 Year Life Member Norman Batchelor

Mr. Batchelor was a 65 year member of the fire company, first joining ranks in April of 1954.  He served the organization well as Secretary, Fire Recorder, Fire Police, Engineer, Vice President, President, 1st Assistant Chief and Fire Chief for 16 years, from 1965 thru 1980.  Norman also was active across Sussex County and the State, serving in leadership positions with the Sussex County Volunteer Firemen's Association, Sussex County Fire Chief's Association, Delaware State Fire Chief's Association and the Delaware Volunteer Firemen's Association.  Along the way, he was recognized numerous times throughout the volunteer fire service, Delmarva Volunteer Firemen's Hall of Fame, 40 Years as Parlamentarian for the SCVFA, MFC Fireman of the Year 2009 and his Lifetime Achivement Award in 2014 for 60 years of service to name a few.  But above it all, his knowledge and experience, willingness to serve and teach and his knack for story telling will remain his legacy.  Mr. Batchelor, you will truly be missed by all.
